The Witness: Listening to Our Imperiled Planet

Mi, 07.12.2022, 14–20 Uhr
Museum Rietberg

Can conscious listening spark radical change?

Around the world, transdisciplinary groups of artists, scientists, and activists, in collaboration with their communities, are listening to our planet’s messages around potential collapse — or hope for rehabilitation. Their research, which incorporates audio, video, and other creative platforms, implores us to witness what may disappear forever, as well as to urgently build new networks of caregiving for the earth. Representing seven teams from Sub-Saharan African and South Asia, the Witness will share research highlights and interactive experiences that invite us to reflect on the relationship between humans and our non-human kin.

Tentative schedule:

  • 2–4 p.m.: Simple actions to connect to sounds
  • 3–5 p.m.: Short films on repeat
  • 5–6 p.m.: Improvisational workshop exploring movement and stillness, silence and sound
  • 6–8 p.m.: A rich conversation about the researchers’ process, including audio and visual fragments of the people and places they met.

All activities will take place at the Rietberg Museum and surrounding park.

Check the website later for final details.
