History and Future of Money

Permanent Exhibition
MoneyMuseum

The history of money is primarily the history of coinage—from the first minted coins in ancient Greece and Asia Minor to the currencies of the modern age. Each coin tells a story of power, trade, and trust, while also reflecting the cultural and political orders of its time.

Future of Money. The 15-year history of Satoshi Nakamoto began in 2008 with the vision of an independent, digital currency that no longer ties trust to states or banks, but to mathematics and technology. Its outcome is uncertain – whether Bitcoin and its successors will change the world does not depend on Satoshi, but on ourselves.
