The use of medicinal plants has a long history in Switzerland, from prehistoric traditions and monastic herb gardens to contemporary phytotherapy. Today, there are many ways in which plants contribute to health and well-being. This exhibition, presented in the Glasshouse and the Garden, invites visitors to explore this diversity as a cultural heritage, a living practice, a field of scientific research, and a source of artistic inspiration.
The exhibition is based on current research projects in Switzerland and builds on last year’s exhibition Uganda`s Medicinal Plant Knowledge in Transition.
The artistic installations Val Mucilaginosa by Isabell Bullerschen and Respiratory Encounters by Anthea Oestreicher offer sensory experiences that reveal hidden connections between medicinal plant knowledge, human health, and the microscopic worlds that sustain life. Both works bring together scientific inquiry and artistic research.
